Why did Englishisin chose Joomla!?

A good question.  Apart from  the low price, Alex Roe the founder and webmaster of this site is a great believer in open source products.  They are often cutting edge products which relate closely to what the user wants.  Open source developers face no economic constraints which means that they can build anything they like into an application without worrying about financial controllers getting all hot and bothered over budgets and timescales.  ROI is defined as being the number of individuals using the application, not by the amount of liquidity in a company's bank accounts. 

Are there any disadvantages?

Yes, there are some.  You need to learn everything yourself, which means that implementation can be slow.  However, you have complete flexibility and free support in terms of the huge number of developers and other users out in the big wide world.  Real people providing real solutions.
